Electric blanket

Electric blankets are one of the best modern inventions for comfortable sleeping.

History of Electric Blankets

The first electric blanket was invented in 1912 by Dr. Sidney I. Russell. Although Dr. Russell was an American physician, his creation wasn't first produced in the US. In fact, it wasn't until the 1920s when it was finally manufactured and was produced by a British company under the name of the British Thermega Underblanket. It took nearly 17 years before the American version, the electric overblanket, to be sold in the US. A different version was introduced in the 1970s. This new blanket used circulating warm water through coils for heating.

Using a Heated Blanket

If you've never used an electric blanket, then you're in for a treat. Imagine turning back the covers and slipping underneath them only to be met with a warm and toasty feeling instead of cold sheets. This kind of blanket is easy to use. Simply, place it on top of the flat sheet and then place your comforter, bedspread or quilt over the blanket, so it's sandwiched between the top sheet and bedspread. Turn the blanket setting to on and it'll transform cold feeling sheets into an envelope of warmth. You won't be waking up in the middle of the night cold and having to adjust your heating thermostat. The technology of this type of blanket ensures the thermostat will keep the heat constant and even all night long. Be sure to read the instructions carefully for proper usage for the particular blanket.
